Overview

Summary:

The eDiscovery Project Manager works within a team of eDiscovery professionals while serving as the primary point of contact for all external eDiscovery project stakeholders.  The individuals in this role, are empowered to provide immediate technical assistance and guidance to client needs, while being supported by both the broader discovery delivery team and other operational departments.  The eDiscovery Project Manager must not only be responsive to client requests, but also should provide consultation in managing the scope, execution, and overall delivery of solutions, industry best practices, and company standards to our clients.  The ability to focus on client needs with a commitment to quality and exceptional customer service is a key indicator of success. This position requires a highly technical individual who is eager to build relationships with clients and fellow team members alike.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a single point of contact for clients on assigned projects.
  • Works closely with legal teams on developing and maintaining a strategy for effectively handling data from collection through final review and production.
  • Responsible for building, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex eDiscovery databases, culling and analyzing data, employing Early Case Assessment and/or Advanced Analytics when appropriate, and oversees the loading of new or updated data, images, and native files for legal team review.
  • Consults with clients in the analysis and presentation of data trends and patterns using Early Case Assessment and Advanced Analytics.
  • Develops and executes strategies for the efficient handling of discovery and production data.
  • Accurately observes all standard eDiscovery Technology conventions and best practices, such as deduplication and other methods of culling of data, including the application of complex search queries and criteria.
  • Assists users with problems and questions, while guiding clients through the entire eDiscovery process.
  • Trains clients when needed in the effective use of all eDiscovery Technology software.
  • Frequent and effective communication with legal and corporate teams is necessary in this position, including ongoing contact and communication with legal team members throughout the entire case lifecycle.
  • Writes clear, concise directions and summaries to legal team members and provides timely status updates.
  • Responsible for managing expectations of all parties involving all stages of case progression.
  • A mastery of the use of all the company’s eDiscovery Technology tools is expected, in particular Relativity (including RelativityOne).
  • Often collaborates with other department personnel but also needs to be able to effectively work alone.
  • Track all case-related activity utilizing project management tools and completion of all relevant electronic tracking and similar forms.
  • Provides advice to clients in the proper methods of data collection, preservation, processing, production, and retention, including consulting on Rule 26(f) discovery planning conferences.
  • Perform tasks associated with data processing, review, and production.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure accuracy of final work product.
  • Communicate expectations for scope and deadlines to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Establish informed project schedules based on a solid understanding of project activities, sequences of events, dependencies, work effort, duration of tasks across departments, and associated resource requirements.
  • Draft and manage documentation of workflows, standards and project tasks.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure established project deadlines are met.
  • Develop and utilize strong analytical skills to research potential solutions and determine appropriate course of action
  • Needs to be available during off-hours, when needed, so flexibility is necessary.
  • This position has a minimum billable target of 75% utilization based on 2,300 worked hours annually (1,725 billable hours per year).

Other Duties:

  • Understand the necessary SCI workflow requirements and client expectations
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of legal industry and legal technology via relationships with all SCI functions, attending vendor product briefing/training sessions, reviewing professional publications and by attending industry sponsored events/webinars.
  • Pursues additional education and training in relevant eDiscovery Technology topics.
  • Maintain an understanding of eDiscovery, market competitors and the tools used to support the industry

 

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:

 

  •  Candidates must have a minimum of bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university
  • 4-8 years related experience and/or training in eDiscovery, litigation support, or project management.
  • Law firm, eDiscovery vendor or strong customer services experience a must. Overall understanding of the EDRM model and FRCP focused on eDiscovery.
  • Experience with hosted review platform(s) and/or data processing software is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements:

 

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Excellent customer service skills and experience a must.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to synthesize complex data.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate sensitive and difficult situations with ease.
  • Must have thorough understanding of EDRM and its relevance to both function and client requirements.
  • Be a self-starter with excellent organizational skills in planning and organizing to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (especially Microsoft Excel), Project Management software (not required but recommended), email and internet software.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Databases (i.e. Access, SQL, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma and other process improvement techniques.

 

Certifications:

 

  • Pre-existing eDiscovery certifications preferred (examples include: Relativity Certified User, Relativity Certified Administrator, Brainspace Analyst, Ipro Certified Administrator, ACEDS, etc.).
  • Must hold Relativity Certified User certification.
  • Relativity Certified Administrator (RCA) preferred.  If a candidate does not hold their RCA, it must be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Lean Master or Six Sigma certifications, preferred.
